Hi, I'm JULIE.
I'm a performer, choreographer, and teaching artist based in Ticino, Switzerland.
My practice blends contemporary dance, theater, humor, and storytelling, and is rooted in curiosity and the wonderfully messy business of being human. Through my work, I'm grateful for the opportunity to help people feel more connected - to themselves, to one another, and to the spaces we share.

Professional BIO
Julie Hadley (formerly Julie Crothers) is a performer, choreographer, and teaching artist based in Ticino, Switzerland. Through dance, theater, humor, and collaboration, she creates work that invites curiosity, embraces contradiction, and makes space for people to see themselves and one another more fully. Her work weaves together contemporary dance, character, storytelling, and self-irony, creating worlds that are deeply personal and generously inviting.
A Tennessee native, Julie studied Dance Performance and Choreography and Arts Administration at Elon University. She spent more than a decade living and creating in the San Francisco Bay Area before relocating to Switzerland, where she is building the next chapter of her artistic practice.
As a disabled artist born without her left forearm and hand, Julie's practice centers accessibility as an artistic value rather than an afterthought. She is endlessly fascinated by translation—between bodies, between languages, between different experiences of what it means to be in a body—and enjoys exploring the different ways we communicate, make space, and connect through her performance and teaching work.
Julie’s choreographic work has been presented at venues and festivals across the United States, including ODC Theatre, Gibney Dance, Bates Dance Festival, Battery Dance Festival, CHOPSHOP Dance Festival, Forward Motion Festival, and the International Women in Dance Leadership Conference. In 2023, she was a Visiting Artist at the Maggie Allesee National Center for Choreography (MANCC), where she developed her evening-length solo Holy Crap. Her choreographic work has also been commissioned by Elon University (NC) and The College Preparatory School (CA). As a performer, she has worked professionally with AXIS Dance Company, touring nationally and internationally, as well as with Sharp & Fine, Tara Pilbrow Dance, Sarah Bush Dance Project, and Ky Frances. In 2020, she was named one of Dance Magazine’s “25 to Watch.”

Professional BIOS
Julie Hadley (previously Julie Crothers) recently became a mom and moved to a little village in Switzerland. Her greatest creative project of late has been the highly interdisciplinary, multi-year process of making and raising a tiny human alongside her hot Italian wife, and all the unexpected joy, grief, humor, and wonder that comes with it. A karaoke enthusiast and avid reader of the weekly pubblicità, she enjoys learning Italian, sending and receiving voice messages, naming and inventing elaborate backstories for her kid’s stuffed animals, and swimming in any body of water.
